Award for Excellence in Political Journalism
- This award recognizes exemplary political journalism that has demonstrated depth, rigour, and impact in covering governance, policy, elections, and democratic institutions in India.
- The award is open to journalistic work, done in the period January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, which has demonstrated depth, rigour, and impact in covering politics, governance, elections, and democratic institutions in India, either by way of investigative work, raising important questions, or pushing for greater accountability. The work should have been consistent and sustained over time.
- The award will be selected by a three-member jury. The selection will be made from the pool of applications submitted to the Guild, including any nominations by the jury and the Guild members as well.
- The award carries a monetary prize of Rs 1,50,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Sustained Excellence – Recognizes a journalist whose body of work over the past 3 years has consistently demonstrated investigative depth, analytical sharpness, and public impact.
- Significant Public Impact – Entries should showcase political journalism that has shaped public discourse, exposed systemic issues, or held those in power accountable.
- Independence & Integrity – The journalist’s work should uphold the highest standards of journalistic ethics and fairness.
- Medium – Open to journalists from print and digital platforms working in English or any Indian language.
- Individual or Team – Can only be awarded to an individual journalist who has contributed to political journalism of impact. Institutions may not apply.
Submission Requirements
- Published works in the period January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025 (up to 5 pieces). These can be sent as attachments or links in PDF format. If any article is behind a paywall, please ensure that it is submitted in PDF format.
- A brief impact statement (300 words) detailing how the work has influenced public policy, governance, elections, or democratic accountability.
- For entries in a language other than English, translation of the work into English needs to be submitted.
