Award for Excellence in Environmental Journalism
- This award honours sustained and impactful reporting on environmental issues, climate change, conservation, and ecological sustainability in India.
- The award is open to journalistic work, done in the period January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, which has had a significant impact on an important issue pertaining to the environment/ climate, either by way of bringing about greater awareness, or by pushing for some impactful action in addressing that issue. The work should have been consistent and sustained over time.
- The award will be selected by a three-member jury. The selection will be made from the pool of applications submitted to the Guild, including any nominations by the jury and the Guild members as well.
- The award carries a monetary prize of Rs 1,50,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Sustained Reporting – Recognizes a journalist whose work over the past 3-4 years has provided in-depth coverage of critical environmental concerns.
- Public Impact – Entries should demonstrate how the reporting has influenced public awareness, policy decisions, environmental action, or legal proceedings.
- Scientific & Investigative Rigour – The journalist’s work should be well-researched, data-driven, and grounded in environmental science or investigative reporting.
- Medium – Open to journalists from print, television, and digital platforms working in English or any Indian language.
- Individual or Team – Can be awarded to an individual journalist or a team that has collectively contributed to impactful environmental journalism. Institutions may not apply.
Submission Requirements
- Published works in the period January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025 (up to 5 pieces). These can be sent as attachments or links in PDF format. If any article is behind a paywall, please ensure that it is submitted in PDF format.
- A brief impact statement (300 words) detailing how the work has influenced environmental policy, conservation efforts, or public awareness.
- For entries in a language other than English, translation of the work into English needs to be submitted.
